Interview Brian Krause

EE: So Brian, this is a pretty big deal for me because I’m a huge fan. I named my first born child after your character on Charmed. You probably get that all the time right?

BK: Um…no. I hear about a lot of cats named after that character, but you’re the first to tell me your named your child after him. That’s really cool.

EE: How do you feel about these huge conventions, are they terrifying or do you love them?

BK: I wouldn’t say nervous but I do get shy. People are very complimentary. I’m not a narcissist but it is a huge confidence booster. Fans love what we did and want to see more of us and at the end of the day, hey, I have FANS!

EE: Did you bring any family with you to Orlando to visit Disney World?

BK: No, no family this time. I have done Disney before though. But this time I worried I’d spend too much money on Pins.

EE: Oh yes, Pin trading is addictive, trust me. I thought I wouldn’t get into it and now I look forward to it every time we visit the parks. Myself, my husband and both the boys enjoy it!

BK: Seriously, it starts with just one pin!

EE: Brian how did you get into acting?

BK: I hate to say this, but it was because of bullying. I don’t want to put a positive spin on bullying obviously, but being bullied got me where I am today. There was a kid who bullied me in middle school and I had to change classes so that there was an exit door near my last class so I could run out of it at the end of the day and run home. The class that was right there was drama. I started trying it out and I was good at it. I did some workshops in high school and that’s when I knew I wanted to keep doing it. Thanks to Jeff Kemp for bullying me.

EE: Tell me a little about your upcoming project Studio Club!

BK: Studio Club was written by a friend and it’s about kind of a WYCA for women when they moved out to Hollywood, where they’d be groomed. IT ran from the 30′s to the 70′s. The Black Dahlia stayed there, Marilyn Monroe stayed there. It’s a cross between Madmen and LA Confidential with Old Hollywood in the background. We’re shooting the teaser and then we go out and try and fund it. If all goes well I’ll be directing. It’ll either be Lifetime, a Webseries or some other type of movie, we don’t really know yet. I think the era is fantastic though.

EE: You did a movie recently called Camel Spiders which I’m dying to see because I love Sci-fi Scary movies! How was that?

BK: It was a cool shoot. It’s Roger Corman and Jim Wynorski, you know what it is going to be. It’s made with a wink of course and has great CGI.  It’s a formula and it works. This movie came out with a special anniversary so it will do well! Also keep an eye out for Piranhaconda June 16, 2012.

EE: C. Thomas Howell co-starred, I have a whole story about him where I told him he was awesome in the WB Studio restaurant. He seems really cool. How is he to work with?

BK: He is a cool Cat, a real Rat Pack kinda guy!

EE: What is one of the best things you’ve done?

BK: I’m trying to get behind the camera. I’d like to produce and of course direct. It’s fun being in control of the camera and being responsible for the cast and crew. It’s nice being the boss. But the most fun thing I’ve had acting wise is Return TO the Blue Lagoon. I learned how to live off the land with the locals in Fiji, just an amazing experience.

EE: Do you watch yourself on television?

BK: With Charmed it got to the point where I watched for technical things. Did I hit my mark, catch the light, hold my head up, those types of technical things. I don’t get into the story though, I can’t follow the character like I can with other shows. I’m hyper critical of myself.

EE: If you were never to succeed at anything again, do you feel you’ve had a good run at the craft?

BK: Absolutely. Playing Leo was great. I did a lot before that too. Of course I hope to do just as much in the future. If I stick in the television world though I would like to get another character. You know, like Tom Selleck has done with Jesse Stone. Having one famous character is a hard thing to overcome, people yell Leo at me in the grocery store.

EE: Do people recognize you every time you leave the house?

BK: Yes, in LA especially. I appreciate it. My theory is if you see someone who you think stunk you just don’t approach them. But if you really appreciated someones trade you tell them and that feels great. It’s knowing you are doing it the right way.

EE: Anything else coming up Brian?

BK: Crackle is going to be putting out a new series called The Unknown. This will air in the summer. It’s a Twilight Zone type of format. I’ll be acting in that. It’s a whole web driven, scripted, full length television show equivalent. I’m excited about it.

It was so nice talking to Brian Krause. I must admit that I realize going back into my recorder that I did the majority of the talking. I’m just such a huge fan I never stopped gushing over how much I lurve him. He also did something so sweet for me. Knowing I’m a huge Holly Marie Combs fan, he walked me all the way to Holly and introduced us. I almost cried. I’ll have another section of this interview where Brian and I chat about a business venture called Fan Shout he is setting out on that will definitely make some lucky fans and charities happy!
