Do not try to outdo Alyssa Milano when it comes to sports. You will lose.
Because when the star of decades of TV shows — from Who’s the Boss? to Charmed and Project Runway All Stars — is not on set, she’s working on the Touch clothing line she created specifically for female sports fans like herself. She’s catching a live sporting event with her family or perhaps filling her role as the bench coach of her 5-year-old son Milo’s Little League team. (In 2010, she also wrote a book, Safe at Home: Confessions of a Baseball Fanatic. The title says it all.)
“For me, I love all sports,” she tells Yahoo Celebrity. “I love going to sporting events, and I think to me it doesn’t matter really what the sport is, it’s just about coming together and celebrating as a community and rooting on your team.”
However, anyone can use the below guidelines to be a superfan like Milano.
Know that cheering for more than one team is part of the fun
Milano is a die-hard fan of the New York Giants. She was born in Brooklyn, and she and her agent husband of seven years, Dave Bugliari, have family ties to the team.
“My father-in-law is actually the head of the chain gang for the New York Giants and has been for like 50 years,” she reveals. “So that’s really cool.”
This year is different, though, since Milano’s current hometown of L.A. now has its own franchise. The Los Angeles Rams currently have a 3-3 record.
“I’m super excited,” she says. “We got season tickets, and you know, once they get settled in their stadium and stuff, the team will be winning.”
Rock fun fan gear — and not just at the stadium
Touch offers V-necks, hoodies, and more emblazoned with official team logos. The most important feature is that the clothes actually fit, a refreshing change of pace for women whose choices were long limited to sloppy sweatshirts and jerseys.
“Well, I think women like to have clothes that make them feel good, clothes that are flattering and that feel good on the body and are made of quality fabric,” she says. “When Touch first came on the market about eight years ago, that didn’t exist at all. I think there are a lot more options now, which is great being a sports fan and being able to look a little more fashionable — not like you’re wearing your husband’s T-shirt.”
Touch is now offering maternity sizes for NFL teams, including a shirt with ruching on the side that Milano names as one of her favorites from her latest collections. She also cites pieces that Project Runway All Stars contestant Kini Zamora designed as part of a challenge on the show as one of her favorites.
“I like it all, it just depends … I don’t only wear them to games,” she explains. “If I’m going to a dinner or something, I love the pieces that Kini designed from Project Runway, from our challenge that we did last year. He did a great coat and a great top for us, and I love those pieces.”
Keep game-day snacks on the lighter side.
Yes, Milano is super into sports, but she usually avoids your typical ballpark fare. Probably a good thing since she spends so much time there. A person can only eat so many nachos and Cracker Jacks.
“I live the Atkins lifestyle, so I try to stay away from, obviously, chips. Cheese is great,” she notes. “Veggies are great to have. Zucchini chips are great. Spinach artichoke dip is great. Chicken wings. So I just really try to stay away from the carbs and sugar.”
