Julian McMahon wants to show how the super villain became "evil".
Julian McMahon still has hopes of resurrecting the Fantastic Four franchise for a solo movie about the ultimate Marvel super-villain, Doctor Doom.
The actor starred as the helmeted dictator of Latveria in two mid-2000s Marvel movies that received a mixed response at the time, but now look like Avengers: Infinity Warnext to the 2015 Fantastic Four flop.
While there is technically already a Doctor Doom solo movie technically in development from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, Julian McMahon recently told Digital Spy that he's keen to do his own version of the spin-off.
"I would like to do a Doctor Doom movie," he said. "I think that character can do his own kind of thing. This is at the core of, I think, Marvel stuff – your villains always start as good people, and became what they became because of the elements that happened around them.
"They’re not just born evil. They’re not just crazy. It was circumstance. It was situations. It was challenges of personalities and ego and all those kind of things that just kind of turned the wheels in a different direction."
He went on: "Even while I was playing Doctor Doom, we had to find a way... actually, we even kind of explored it with this whole trip to space. Everyone got affected, and that’s how they got their powers. Well, unfortunately, for Doctor Doom, it scarred him for life.
"It was that kind of thing. Then people started to look at him a different way, and then he started to act a different way. So that stuff is interesting to dig into, I think."
McMahon is currently working with the studio and playing another super-villain in the live-action series Marvel's Runaways, which pits a group of teen heroes against their evil parents in a battle to save the world.
