Hallmark Channel wraps up its 2017 Fall Harvest Season with A Harvest Wedding, starring Jill Wagner and Victor Webster. Webster has been a regular presence on both Hallmark networks this year. He was on Hallmark Channel in February with Love Blossoms, his Christmas movie Home for Christmas Day premiered as a sneak peek on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries in July and will formally join the new holiday lineup when it kicks off next month, and he recurred in the second season of Chesapeake Shores. I talked to Webster earlier this week about his busy year.

A Harvest Wedding casts Webster as David, a modern-day farmer who has successfully taken over the family business and evolved it, organizing a farmer’s market with the other growers in his town and expanding his horizons with a little agricultural chemistry. That idyllic world is thrown for a loop when his long-ago high-school sweetheart lands on his doorstep as the wedding organizer for his brother’s fast-approaching wedding.

Webster loved entering that world. “I knew they were shooting in Vancouver, which is always a bonus for me. I read the script and thought it was good, and I said, ‘Yes.’ We shot it [outside Vancouver proper] in Langley,” he explains.

“[There is] great local talent up there, so Vancouver is always a great place to shoot. They keep a lot of actors busy. They’re a great company to work for. It’s great for actors who haven’t had a chance to work in a lot of things to cut their teeth, sharpen their skills, and show people what they can do.”

He had two favorite scenes in the film–one out among the locals and another that was a small set piece. “[I enjoyed] when we’re shooting in the rain in umbrellas. It was pouring rain the entire day. We were shooting in an actual farmer’s market and there were real people. We had to tell people not to look at us, and we had one shot for continuity because people would move on and finish their shopping,” he laughs.

“[I also liked] the scene in the kitchen where [Sarah] encourages me to go after my dreams. There’s humor, a developing, budding romance, friendship, there’s everything in that scene.  Both of us don’t really remember how it ended [in high school]. It kind of faded [as you talk less and less] and get caught up in your own life. It just dissipated, as it does in young love.”

In Home for Christmas Day, Webster stars opposite Catherine Bell in a movie set at Christmas that wasn’t necessarily a Christmas movie. He enjoyed that balance, and getting to work with Bell. “I used to watch JAG back in the day. I was like, ‘I get to work with Catherine Bell?'” She’s obviously very talented,” he says.

“I liked that I wasn’t a huge part of the story. It was more about the kids and the mother’s relationship with her daughter I came in and provided the alternative and voice of reason and explaining that she might be holding on a little too tightly [instead of] letting her daughter go out there and live, which parents have a tendency to do when you’ve had some pain in your life.”

“[I was the] voice of reason and the alternative view. It was nice to come in and play the role. It was a movie about  characters during Christmas rather than a Christmas movie.”

In the just-finished second season of Chesapeake Shores, Webster’s Douglas was a business partner with the potential for more to the series lead character, Abby, who left things in an uneasy uncertainty with her true love on the show. That may give Douglas a window if the show returns for a third season.

“I love the show. I loved everyone I was working with [and] shooting on Vancouver Island, which is absolutely beautiful. It was a fun character to play. I love coming in, mixing it up and causing trouble. I don’t know what’s happening with my character. I would assume, with the way it ended, he’s going to be mixing it up in Chesapeake Shores in the future [if there’s another season].

Webster also caused a little trouble in TV Land’s Younger back in July and had a great time shooting in New York City and playing with that cast. “They called me up and said, ‘Hey do you want to come do the show?’ I had done a little research and thought, ‘That looks pretty fun,'” he recalls. “Darren Starr knows what he’s doing. I went up there and played on that set for a little while and had a little fun.”

Webster has enjoyed the mix of opportunities this year, moving between movies, recurring, and one-off roles. “That’s what I love about doing what I do and getting to mix it up all the time,” he points out “Having those dramatic films, and jump[ing] in and test[ing] that part of your acting arsenal and then being able to be romantic and fun and have that lighter connection is fun to do as well. You have got to have all that to keep it interesting.”

Love Blossoms filmed in Belgium and Webster took advantage of the European location. “It was incredible. We got to travel around Europe. Belgium was stunning I went to Germany, Prague, Luxembourg, did a bunch of day trips on weekends and days when I was off. I went to Paris,” he shares.

“I got to work with Shantel, who’s super, super talented, and we had a really great connection. That was a really great experience. We actually stayed at the castle with a moat so I got to live like a king.”

When he’s not working, Webster travels extensively, and marries that with another passion–photography. “Traveling for me is one of the greatest pleasures and most rewarding experiences in my life. When I go on vacation, I’ll go alone and take my camera,” he says.

“I see the culture, try the food, meet the people, look at the architecture and landscapes and take pictures of everything. I like to capture a moment in time.” You can check out his portfolio on Instagram.
